This post is all about New Year’s resolutions ideas.
“To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” – Winston Churchill
As we approach the fresh start of the New Year, set your year up for success with these super useful New Year’s resolutions ideas.
When setting goals or resolutions, you want to make sure these goals are measurable and actually attainable. Try to get as specific with your New Year’s resolutions as you possibly can. The more specific the better!
So let’s make the most of this new year and get right into the goals!
New Year’s Resolutions Ideas
1. Make at least 2 new friends
Making friends as an adult is quite difficult! As a person who recently moved to a new state, I understand how difficult it is to put yourself out there.
In fact, it’s something that I’m still working on. I plan to look up events happening in this new city and put things on my calendar.
You should try to plan ahead. You’re much more likely to actually follow through with your plans if they are scheduled and committed to the calendar.
Try going to a coffee shop consistently to become a new “local” simply by being a familiar face. You can also look up events and things going on using Meetup.com.
2. Prioritize Sleep
Sleep is so important! Sleeping gives your body a natural reset shift. Going to bed at the right time consistently can be difficult, especially for night owls.

3. Say ‘no’ more
Set boundaries more and say no to things you don’t want to do so you can say yes to the things you want to do. It can be hard to say no to people if you’re not used to doing so.
You must, however, wire your brain to prioritize your needs first. That may mean saying no to going out with your friends or getting caught up in things you really don’t have time for.

4. Save $10,000 (or any monetary amount)
Setting financial goals for the year is an excellent way to start the year strong! Be in charge of your money and be sure to give every dollar a job!

5. Travel to a new city
Exploring the world, visiting new places, and meeting new people help to make the world go ’round. It’s really important to get out of your bubble from time to time and see something new!
6. Take a solo trip
Perhaps everyone should take a solo trip at least once in their lives! Life-changing is the understatement of this experience!
When doing things alone, force yourself to think for yourself and yourself only. You don’t have to accommodate anyone. If you want to sleep all day, you can do that.
Maybe you want to eat all day, you can do that too! No one will be able to keep up with what you’re doing unless you make it a point for them to know. The only way this happens is if you post something on social media or broadcast things to the world.
7. Try something new every 2 weeks
Keep yourself young and receptive to new information by trying something new every now and then. Trying new things makes you a much more well-rounded and likable person.
It also gives you plenty of things to always talk about. Boring people who live boring lives usually don’t have much to add to stories or conversations because they don’t do much.
Be the change!
8. Exercise at least 3xs per week
Daily exercise has a plethora of health benefits as you probably could imagine. Exercise doesn’t have to be some intense workout that is hard to show up to consistently.
If you prefer to go on walks, that works wonders for so many reasons! If you like yoga, running, exercising at the gym, or riding bikes, all of those activities serve as a form of exercise.
Do things that you like doing and/or try to step outside of your comfort zone every now and then and you’ll see your life shift for the better.
9. Invest in your knowledge
Investing in your knowledge encourages you to consistently be in a mood to receive new information. Read books on things you are curious about or books on how to take care of your finances.
You can research just about anything at this point, so use your resources to learn everything you need to know at this moment.

10. Purchase a home
If purchasing a house, you have to understand the importance of timelines and how money works.
You don’t want to end up losing money buying things you know nothing about. Where can you find out about this information?
This goes back to the previous New Year’s Resolutions idea. If buying a home is something you’re interested in, you should start doing your research and begin investing in your knowledge on this topic.
11. Learn another language
Being able to speak multiple languages is such a useful skill. You’re going to benefit from being able to talk to anyone without any barriers such as language.
You can become fluent by studying abroad somewhere (yes, even as an adult), using apps such as Duolingo and/or Babble, or taking an actual class.
Rosetta Stone anyone?
12. Adopt a puppy
Pets are expensive! Do not think for one second you can pull up to a pet store and buy a dog without a plan. Well… I guess it’s possible but it will not be easy!
Adding a pet to the family is like adding on another family member. Pets can add so much to the home at the same time!
If getting a pet is something you want to do, make sure you’re prepared and you’ll be happy and be able to thank yourself later.
13. Read at least 12 books (1 per month)
Now, if you’re planning on investing in your knowledge and potentially reading books on topics you’re interested in learning, you can kill two birds with one stone.
You’ll be meeting the goals of both investing in your knowledge and reading at least one book per month.
Reading books also has a plethora of health benefits in addition to being a good source of entertainment.
14. Start a side business
I am in the process of creating multiple streams of income. We’ve all recently learned the importance of not relying on one source of income. The suggested financial advice is to put your eggs in several different baskets and give every dollar a job from the very beginning.
Create different “baskets” for yourself by creating different sources of income.
15. Take more photos
Capture more moments of your life. Don’t get to the end of the year and wish you had taken more photos.
It can be as simple as taking a photo of your favorite coffee place or taking a picture of your delicious latte.
16. Learn how to bake
Baking is a great hobby that will give your brain and body something to do while enhancing your culinary skills. It’s a win-win!
17. Go on a luxurious vacation
This vacation can include friends and family if that’s your tribe. If you’ve never experienced a luxurious vacation, why not set a goal to experience it at least once? Bonus if you can get your closest friends to tag along with you.
Let this be your year to make it happen!
18. Make a plan to pay off any debt
If you’re currently in debt, let this be the year you tackle it full-on and make a plan to pay it off.
If you already have a plan, good for you! You should take this time to reevaluate how your plan is going and decide if it needs to be adjusted.
19. Create a savings goal
Go into the new year with a better handle on your finances. Having a reason to save makes saving easier. Maybe this savings goal can fund your luxurious vacation.
20. Journal consistently
Haven’t you heard? Journaling is one of the best practices for mental health a person can do.
You should look into the different forms of journaling. There’s bullet journaling, art journaling, morning pages, gratitude journaling, journals with prompts, reflective journaling, reading journaling, travel journaling, unsent letters, and freewriting.
Pick one that sparks your interest and watch everything change!
I have a bullet journal, a reading journal, and a journal that has a mixture of gratitude and reflective journaling.
21. Do something consistently
This is your time to pick a goal that may not have been listed and create a plan of action. Figure out how to execute your plan and take steps toward achieving it daily.
Imagine yourself consistently doing what you said you would. It’s such a great feeling to prove to yourself that you can do something. It builds self-trust. Give it a try!
