Now a quick disclaimer: You should know that the perfect morning routine actually starts at night.
You need to get your night routine on lock! It will certainly boost your morning in the right direction much more easily.
If you fail to get your night routine on lock, it’ll be hard to consistently get up early and not feel groggy, hit the snooze button, or do everything you’d like.

1. Set an alarm
Decide on what time you need to wake up. A good rule of thumb is to wake up at least 2 hours before you need to head for work.
This gives you two full hours to have a true morning routine. You can get A LOT done in 2 hours. Move with a purpose and you can get more done than your average person. You’ll be doing more things before most people have even woken up.
It’s a good feeling to make the day yours from the very beginning.
If you need to leave by 7 am, then you need to wake up at 5 am to make this work for you. If you need to leave by 8 am, then you can wake up at 6 and so on.
Make it work for you.
For my people that can wake up 30 minutes before they need to leave: 1. that’s risky. 2. it starts your day with anxiety and stress. 3. You miss an opportunity to help your future self. Wow. Who’s looking out for the future you?
2. Make your bed
This may sound silly, but really! Remember, the whole idea is to look out for your future self. Imagine coming home to a nice bed that’s made.
You won’t be tempted to get back into it once it’s made, and it keeps your inner sheets clean longer.
3. Brush your teeth
Brushing your teeth first thing in the morning is something you can do on autopilot while your body is still waking up. Also, dental hygiene is incredibly important!
If you’d rather brush your teeth at a different time, like after eating breaking or something like that, that’s fine. Just make sure you brush your teeth before leaving your place, conversing with someone, and/or closing out your morning routine.
4. Drink a glass of water
If you have a problem with your water intake, as in you don’t drink enough, starting off your day with a nice glass of water helps you get your organs lubricated and started off right.
I always think, ‘What is the first thing I’m about to put in my body today?’ It’s good to start the day with water rather than coffee or a smoothie.
Water helps to flush toxins from your body and aids in hydration. Those are only two benefits but you and I both know the list of benefits of drinking water is quite long!
5. Meditate
Have you ever meditated before? Did you know that more million and billionaires start their day off with some sort of prayer or meditation?
It doesn’t even matter if you’re religious or not. Meditation can wear many hats. One incredibly important hat it wears is a stress reliever. Meditating forces you to focus on the breath and consciously breathing and paying attention to your thoughts.
I never mentioned accessing some sort of higher power. You do you. I’m keeping it simple by suggesting you focus on the breath. You’ll feel much more in control of your thoughts and feelings. Give it time. You’ll see!
6. Breakfast Drink
This can mean several things depending on the person. For me, I make a vanilla protein smoothie. I like to drink something filling before going to the gym.
Some people do not intend to go to the gym in the morning. For you, you may want to simply make a cup of tea or coffee. Either option works.
There are plenty of people who suggest going to the gym early in the morning. There are also those who just can’t make that happen.
While drinking the smoothie, I take this time to go to my daily planner and write down all of my goals for the day and time-block my day before it truly begins.
Do this for a week and your whole life will change!
7. Exercise
I would suggest trying some things out. Working out first thing in the morning doesn’t have to mean going to the gym. You can put on Youtube and do a workout right in your house or do yoga in the mornings in the comfort of your home.
You need to determine the why. There are several reasons to choose to go to the gym over working out at home. You also have several reasons to stay home. You can do the exact same things you’d do at the gym at home unless you are specifically into certain machines.
But let’s be real. You can buy your own set of weights, floor mats, medicine balls, etc.
To each their own. I go to the gym because I tend to spend too much time alone. I need to get out more and be around other adults.
Keyword: adults. I’m a full-time teacher so there is no shortage of social interaction throughout the week, BUT they are kids and are not my choice. I live in a new city and new state so everything is so new! Nonetheless, going to the gym can be a great way to socialize- potentially.
But let’s be real, no one should be going to the gym the socialize, but you never know. It is better to be available for social interaction than to spend all of your time at home alone wondering why you don’t have friends yet.

8. Hygiene
After you’ve returned from the gym, completed your yoga session, or finished waking up entirely, take care of your hygiene and get yourself ready for the day.
I’ve recently learned the importance of romanticizing everything you do to add luxury to your life. So while you’re in the shower, go ahead a exfoliate while you’re at it, or use a nice face wash or face mask. Pamper yourself just a little and focus on how you feel.
No time? Get in the shower and wash up and get out. Just make sure that you moisturize and take care of your skin at the very least.
A morning routine for work is tough because it depends on so many factors! Just remember to tailor these ideas to you and your life.
9. Get dressed for the day
This is for those who are specifically looking for the perfect morning routine for working from home- yes you. You need to get dressed too!
The simple act of getting ready gets your mind ready as well.
It gives your brain the cue that it’s time to get going and get things done. Even if you’re about to get going right to the chair in your office space or kitchen table.
It doesn’t really matter the location of work so as long as you get ready for work.
10. Coffee + Work
By this point, you should be ready to close out your successful morning routine and take care of what you need to take care of for the day.
You can fix yourself a cup of coffee or stop at your favorite coffee shop if you have time, get your caffeine boost for the day, and get going!
