Pedicure at home: Step by step
1. Remove nail polish
If you have nail polish on your toes already, I would go ahead and remove that to get it out of the way. When you go to an actual nail spa to get a pedicure, they start by soaking your feet first. I do think that soaking your feet helps to soften the nail polish for easy removal, BUT if you use good nail polish remover you don’t have to worry about taking forever to remove the polish.
To remove the nail polish from your toes, use cotton balls dipped in acetone.
2. Soak feet
Here is where the relaxation begins! It is time to soak those toes to soften the dead skin and callouses for easy removal. You also do not need to break the bank to soak your feet. Do your pedicure at home on a budget by using a simple storage bin container to soak your feet in.
If you have the money, go ahead and treat yourself to something of better quality especially if you know you’re going to use it often.
The solution you use to soak your feet in is what makes the biggest difference in the world! Go from rough, dry, cracked feet to smooth by soaking your feet in coconut oil and Epsom salt. I’ve listed exactly what I use below.
You will notice your feet soften INSTANTLY after putting them in this solution. Coconut oil is AMAZING and does wonders for the skin! Try it!
Use this moment to sit back and relax. Read a book, catch up on social media, or update your agenda. Do whatever you would like to do in this moment of free time.
3. Clip nails + push back cuticles
Dry off your feet and let the maintenance process begin.
Use nail clippers to clip your nails to your desired length. Use a cuticle pusher to push back your cuticles and clean up the edges.
4. Scrub + File feet
If your feet pull on the covers or scratch people, it’s time to be filed. I recently came across this life-changing tool from Amazon that filed away dead skin so easily and made my feet incredibly soft. This foot file comes with changeable file remover pieces. One side is smoother and the other is a bit rough. It is perfect for buffing up dead skin on one side and smoothing down rough edges on the other.
5. Exfoliate feet
A cool hack is to use a body scrub to further exfoliate your feet. If you suffer from severely dry and cracked skin, I wouldn’t skip out on this step.
The body scrub doesn’t have to be extremely fancy or expensive. You can pick up a simple body scrub from Target, or Amazon, or create your own.
6. Moisturize
You absolutely cannot forget this step! Skipping this step may result in even more dry skin. Seal in all of your hard work by moisturizing after. I’ve been needing more moisture lately, so I combine both lotion and an oil and it has completely changed everything.
There are a plethora of reasons why you should moisturize your skin every day. Don’t forget to give your feet that same attention.
Amazon always flags this item as “often out of stock”.
7. Polish nails
This is the fun part! Go ahead and add some color to your nails and seal it in with a top coat.
These steps are meant to be simple and easy. You can always go more or less on certain aspects of the process, but doing a simple pedicure at home on your own can actually take longer than you may think.
It can be exhausting, but it is rewarding! Every time you look down at your feet, you’ll be able to smile knowing that your feet look great and that they were done by you.
