I started blogging seriously for the first time in January 2022. This is my very FIRST blogging monthly income report! I started by setting some goals for myself and my blog. Did I reach them?
People start blogging for all kinds of reasons. Personally, my reasons for blogging sparked from wanting financial freedom to live a life worth living, but most importantly to take care of my family.
I am the youngest in my family, a first-generation college graduate, and a full-time teacher. Needless to say, I chose a profession that while I enjoy doing it, doesn’t bring in nearly enough money to help my family in the way that I would like to.
I want to live! I don’t want to live to work. Literally, all I do is work and it is so unenjoyable! Living this kind of lifestyle is aging me very quickly and I don’t like it. Honestly, I don’t know how people do it.
So, I started this blog. More specifically, my goal was to learn how to start a blog and make money. In this first month of blogging, I’ve been juggling working a full-time job, having a social life, and keeping up with the blog of course. How did it go?
This post is all about my blogging monthly income in my first month of blogging seriously.
January Goals | First Month Blogging
I created a Pinterest account, took only 2 blogging courses, and began working hard on getting this thing up and running.
In a notebook, I wrote down goals I wanted to achieve by the end of this month:
- Publish 8 blog posts (2 posts per week)
- Build traffic to my site
- 500 sessions on the website (Google Analytics)
- 500 page views
- 15,000 monthly views on Pinterest
- 100 followers on Pinterest
- SEO – Quality content
This list seems like a lot of goals, but it really all relates to one another in some way. Notice that monetary goals are not part of the list.

Anyway, I think blogging is pretty fun! I didn’t know what I was really getting myself into, but after a month of doing this, I’m starting to develop a strategy and plan that has been helping me grow very quickly- but also not that quickly at all, haha!
When you don’t know what you’re doing, things can be really difficult! I put together this post of How to Start a Blog and Make Money | Beginner’s Guide for this very reason. Check it out if you are interested in what I did to get started.
Did I reach my goals?
Publish 8 blog posts (2 posts a week):
I ended up being able to publish 3 posts a week for a total of 12 posts published!
The week before I went back to school post the New Year holiday, I created a content calendar for myself and plugged in posts to write and publish on certain days.
I started batch writing posts and tried my best to get ahead of my schedule as much as possible.
My school schedule is often very unpredictable, so I didn’t know what I would be able to do when school actually started. I’ve become a weekend warrior (working on the blog all weekend) because my weekdays are so full.
It all started with having a great morning routine and improving my time management skills to truly maximize my time and day.
I now wake up at 5 am to get at least 1 hour of work done before heading out the door for school (my full-time job) and I AM NOT a morning person.

500 sessions on the website (https://jerrilynrene.com)
I reached my goal! As of today, I have 570 sessions according to Google Analytics.

500 page views
As of today, I have 595 page views this month. Woah! I’m super happy with that! I went WAY beyond my goal.
Pinterest! 15,000 monthly views
According to my main/home page of Pinterest, I have 44k monthly views. (mouth-drop!)
Obviously, I was not planning on getting THAT many monthly views! I thought I was aiming too high with 15k monthly views but clearly, I had no idea.
100 followers on Pinterest
Nope! I did not reach this goal! I currently have a humbling 21 followers, and I’m proud of that! Does having a lot of followers on Pinterest impact anything? I’m not sure yet honestly.

SEO – Quality Content
I spend a lot of hours just researching keywords from several platforms. There is a certain method that I use to do this. It takes a while, but I noticed a huge shift in the number of link clicks I started getting.
A lot of my posts have also started ranking higher which results in more impressions and link clicks all around. My strategy is working!
Bonus Goal
So, I had the thought that I would apply to Google Adsense to start monetizing my account at the end of the month. Well, halfway through the month I noticed that I started getting more page sessions and decided to apply earlier than anticipated.
I was approved for Google Adsense on January 18th! Yay!! I’m so excited!
As of today, I’ve made $2.92 through Google Adsense. It’s not MUCH, but it’s definitely exciting to begin making my first few dollars on the internet! This is only the beginning, and I CAN NOT WAIT to share with you how much I continue to make going forward.
Making $2 shows me that making money blogging is possible!

Once the end of February hits, I can’t wait to come back and share how it went and what I’ve learned! This first month of blogging has taught me the importance of being consistent, having a plan, and trying things that may not work.
I love writing blog posts! It’s a lot of fun for me and I can’t wait to see where this new thing takes me!
